Curriculum Internationalisation
Introduction
Internationalisation of Curricula & Teaching Practice
In an ever more globally operating, competitive HE sector, academic departments
need to consider curricula and their relevance in an international context.
This is commonly referred to as “internationalisation of curricula”
– whatever that may mean in a particular subject: e.g., incorporation
of international case examples and topics, field trips and collaborative projects
and studio work or particular teaching approaches that foster the exchange of
experiences and mutual learning between home and foreign students. We, in CEBE
believe, that in the Built environment disciplines an internationalised curriculum
is relevant and probably already (partially) developed – although this
may depend on the interpretation of the concept.
The Higher Education Academy is currently
supporting work to help departments and schools as well as institutions to internationalise
their curricula and provision under their "Internationalisation
initiative".
The Centre for Education in the Built Environment (CEBE) is one of the subject
centres participating in a scoping study at subject specific level to determine
what specific resources or activities may be needed to support institutions,
departments or schools by exploring
- The meaning/importance of an internationalised curriculum in your field;
- Current teaching practices/your experience in delivering an internationalised
curriculum (e.g., special support for international students/collaborative
projects);
- Problems and challenges in developing a internationalised curriculum;
- Needs of departments/schools to overcome potential barriers in progressing
internationalisation of curricula
