The Centre for Education in the Built Environment     Construction Skills     Construction Industry Council

  Developing Competent People

Venue: University of Westminster, Central London
Date: 12 – 13 September 2007

Background

'A rebalancing of the priorities for HE institutions to make available relevant, flexible and responsive provision that meets the high skill needs of employers and their staff' (Leitch 2006)

This conference seeks to strengthen the educational process by encouraging engagement between education, industry and the professions. It will provide delegates with the opportunity to actively engage with new ideas through a series of presentations, discussions and participatory workshops.

This challenge must be met and by working in partnership we can:

  • Bridge the skills gaps and address progression issues.
  • Develop industry-education linkages for competitive advantage.
  • Ensure that the educational supply chain meets lifelong learning needs.
  • Design and deliver demand-led, flexible learning approaches which are related to workforce development.

These will enhance the contribution of higher education to the economy and society. Thus, collectively leading to an increase in productivity, employment growth and individual output.
